Fish to target in spring

Anglers eagerly await spring and when it arrives we cannot wait to get down by the water! It tends to start towards the end of March and finish late June. At Taskers Angling we thought we would tell you a little bit about some of the species of fish you can expect to catch.

First lets looks at why people like to go out fishing during spring. Fish become more active at this time of the year and will feed more after a long winter. Another bonus is that the banks can be a lot quieter due to it being right off the back of the cold weather so it should hopefully be more peaceful for you! It is also a great time to brush up on some tactics and get some practice in before what is always a busy summer.

So lets take a look at what fish you can expect to catch:

  • Carp: The most popular fish to try and catch. carp begin to wake up from their winter sleep and are more common. In particular crucian carp are a given in spring. Using feeder tactics can work really well to catch these ones. If you want to catch average carp and mirror carp can be caught in shallow areas with a pellet feeder.
  • Sea: You can head out to the sea as well during the spring. The UK coastlines offer bass, eels, flounder, ray and much more.
  • Coarse: A lot of you will be spending your time coarse fishing. carp are not the only thing you can catch when coarse fishing. bream and tench are known to make an appearance at this time. groundbait and PVA bags will hopefully help you catch plenty of coarse fish this spring.
  • Predator: Whilst other species come out in this time predator fish turn to shrink away. Perch are still able to be caught most likely so still equipping yourself properly to catch these is still a good idea.

We have covered to main types of species and styles of fishing you are likely to encounter when fishing in the spring. If you have any questions about what gear you may need then please visit our Liverpool store or give us a call on 01512606015.
